Mambo Italiano

The result of yesterday's 2nd leg Champion's League semifinal match reads:
AC Milan 3 Manchester United 0.

AC Milan are through to the finals on an aggregate score of 5-3. Going into yesterday's match, Milan was down 3-2 from the first leg match at Old Trafford. But with goals from Kaka, Seedorf and Gilardino, Milan capitalised on a below-par performance by Man Utd (big game jitters?) to crush their opponents, and set up a repeat of the Champion's League final with Liverpool two years ago in Instanbul.

Milan started out this season with many obstacles to be overcomed. Nearly kicked out of the Champion's League competition because of a match-fixing scandal, the team persevered to see themselves through to the Athens final on 23 May. And in spite of an 8-point deduction at the beginning of this season's Italian Serie A, the team is currently sitting at third place on the table.

Talk about against all odds. Talk about fighting spirit. Talk about belief.

See you, Liverpool, at Athens on 23 May. Milan forgets not the heartache in Instanbul two years ago.

Sound the war drums.

i've been tagged

Yes, I've been tagged....

"People who are tagged should write a blog post of 6 weird things about them as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says 'you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog."

Weird Thing No. 1
I'm very particular in parking cars....steering wheel must be straight, handbrake not pulled up too tight (depending on the gradient of the slope i'm parked on, more clicks may be necessary), car aligned straight, parked nicely in the box with even spaces at all sides, etc..

Weird Thing No. 2
I prefer to sleep on a mattress on the floor than on a bed.

Weird Thing No. 3
When I sit down, if space permits, I put my leg up. It's just more comfortable. I don't do it in public places. Usually at home, or in the car when waiting at a long traffic light.

Weird Thing No. 4
I don't take Fisherman's Friend lozenges. When I was a small boy, we were travelling back to Kuala Lipis in a car. The roads were killers back then, and I felt nauseatic. My father gave me a Fisherman's Friend lozenges, saying that it'll help to ease the feeling. I took it, and immediately after that, I vomitted. To this day, I have a great phobia towards Fisherman's Friend lozenges.

Weird Thing No. 5
The enamel of my front teeth has been corroded...by chlorine, because of the long hours of training I used to put in during my competitive swimming years. So I have (1) sensitive teeth, and (2) teeth that get dirty easily.

Weird Thing No. 6
My right ring finger is permanently crooked...an injury sustained during a basketball game back in school. Thankfully, there are no current effects, but apparently when I hit old age, the joint might hurt.

I tag...

Of Reports & Testimonies

I was flipping through a church’s annual report again recently. As usual, it reports on the financials (where the funds of the church has been channelled to, etc…very important for accountability, even the apostle Paul went through great pains to ensure proper accountability of his monetary gifts), and it reports & lists the events/happenings/functions/occasions that each ministry had organised.

On top of these things that are found in the church report, I wish I could see people’s testimonies being reported: testimonies by people in the church about how God has worked in their lives through particular church ministry/ministries. Besides, ministry is all about transformation of people’s lives in God, it’s about making a positive impact in people’s lives with the Messiah, it’s about making a difference in people’s lives with Jesus Christ, and it’s about glorifying & worshipping God.

If there are souls that can testify about how they’ve been touched by God through the ministries, then we can praise God together for the work He’s doing through the ministries, and share the blessings of seeing lives being impacted with Christ. Also, these testimonies itself can be used by God to bring people closer to Him, whether the Christian or non-Christian who reads about them.

And yes, the purpose of these testimonies is to glorify God, not man.

~ And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marvelled. ~ Mark 5:18-20 (NKJV)

Come Undone

The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this (build a tower that reaches to the heavens), then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." (Genesis 11:6-7)

As I'm flying in airplanes, starting diving, working at bridges and high-rise buildings under construction, I've come to wonder with awe about how much man have gone beyond themselves to achieve what we've achieved.

Man, being land creatures, have somehow figured out a way to defy gravity and fly. We can fly! It's still beyond me how we can make such heavy things get in the air, while carrying a few hundred people or other heavy cargo at the same time. What about going through the air faster than the speed of sound? *boggled*

We can't breath underwater. Has that stopped us from venturing into the deep blue world? No. Somehow, man has figured out a way not only to stay underwater for a certain period of time with SCUBA, but to live in mighty underwater torpedo-like fortresses that can go on and on underwater for months on end! (Especially if they're nuclear-powered)

So what if there's a vast body of water between where we currently stand and the land across the other side? We will "walk on water" and cross to the other side! And so, bridges have been built, bigger and longer, allowing us to "walk on water" or "skate on water" or "whatever-mode-of-transport-you-choose on water" to get to the other side. (My engineer friend has disclosed to me that of all structures, bridges are the most challenging to build)

What about space travel? *boggled beyond words*

Man has achieved the practically unachievable.

Can you imagine what man would have REALLY achieved in this day and age, had we still been speaking the same language and be able to unite in one common form of verbal communication?

"Then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them." (Genesis 11:6)

What great potential God has endowed on man.

Yet the more pressing question is, how would man handle such potential had we still been allowed by God to speak the same language and unite in one common form of verbal communication?

Frightening.

Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth." (Genesis 11:4)

That's the kind of attitude in which man would have handled the potential.

Why would man have handled it such?

The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. (Genesis 6:5-6)

Man has been given a beautiful earth. It is a good place to enjoy and live in. But man has been turning it upside down pretty fast, in the name of so-called progress.

Man discovered nuclear energy. It is good as a long-lasting source of power and fuel. But man has used it for destruction and for gaining superpower status.

Man established mass media. It is good for dissemination of information. But man has used it to advance selfish and evil intents.

So on and so forth.

Core issue: sin and evil.

"Dear God, we're so sorry that we've screwed up everything You've given us. We're sinful. Thank You for Jesus Christ who has rectified the issue of sin and evil. Yet, what have we done with Jesus? What are we doing with Jesus? What are we going to do with Jesus? May we not screw this one up."
